Visiting the Amish Experience - located halfway between Bird-in-Hand and Intercourse, Pennsylvania - provides a substantial glimpse into what it means to be Amish.  The Amish Experience is designed to be just that - a complete "experience," providing visitors with an entertaining and exciting way to understand, observe and learn about the Amish.

Your ticket includes a tour of the Homestead and Schoolroom, the unique "Jacob's Choice" film experience and a guided minibus tour of the farmlands.

The goal is to humanize the Amish, to show them not as curiosities or saints, but as real people of faith, faults, humor, joys and sorrows.  For over 50 years, the Amish Experience has remained the definitive interpretive center for guided tours of the Amish farmlands, tours of Lancaster County's only officially designated Heritage Site - the Amish House & One-Room School - and the spectacular Amish Experience Theater F/X production.  Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence and Hall of Fame winner.

The Amish Country Homestead and Fisher Schoolroom

(touring the Homestead and Schoolroom takes about 45 minutes)

The Amish Country Homestead is a reflection of our commitment to accurately and sensitively portray the Old Order Amish as they live and work in today’s world. The Homestead is the home of the fictional Amish family of Daniel and Lizzie Fisher, whom you have gotten to know in the Amish Experience Theater’s “Jacob’s Choice.” Inside the Homestead, we learn of Amish traditions and practices, plain clothing and life without electricity. The Fisher One-Room School is attached to the house and filled with authentic desks and furnishings from an actual Amish school. You’ll learn the tradition of teaching eight grades in one room. From the pantry stocked full of freshly canned vegetables to the family’s plain clothes… from propane-powered lamps to air-compressor driven appliances…the Fisher Family Homestead truly provides insights into the complex riddles of a culture so very different from our own.

Tours begin every hour, at quarter before the hour (First tour: 10:45 AM; Last tour: 4:45PM)

Officially Designated Lancaster County Heritage Site - Lancaster County has become a national model for its acclaimed Heritage Program, designed to highlight sites and people that authentically interpret the special traditions, cultures, buildings and crafts that exemplify its people.

Your 45-minute personally guided tour of this carefully appointed Old Order Amish House offers fascinating insights into Amish life today. The Homestead is continually updated to reflect current Amish furnishings and styles. The schoolroom is an often photographed visitor favorite.

The Amish Experience F/X Theater - "Jacob's Choice"

(the film presentation is 35 to 40 minutes long with introduction)

"Compelling" best describes the emotional story of "Jacob’s Choice," told through the everyday lives of the Fishers, an Old Order Amish family of today. Witness young Jacob's struggle in choosing the Amish church, or leaving behind family and community for the allure of the modern world. Experience the horrendous religious persecution of their forefathers and take part in the perilous voyage to America, all magically heightened by wind, rain, smoke, fire, ghostly and other Disney-like  effects that thrill the senses. Jacob's challenges with faith, tradition and loved ones in a fast-changing world is a story that touches each of us, young and old, in a poignant and memorable way. More than any other Amish attraction, "Jacob’s Choice" will leave you with an understanding of what it means to be Amish, and the ties that continue to bind the community together through the centuries.

This dramatic tale is unforgettably told through a high-tech, multi-media production conceived in the finest tradition of Hollywood and Orlando themed attractions. Recently re-mastered with added visuals, sound re-design and new special effects, visitors experience 400 years of history in 40 minutes of magic. Only the third "experiential" theater in North America, the Amish Experience Theater, three years in research and planning, has been designed to break down the barrier between audience and movie screen. Changes in the environmental space within the theater literally allow you to "experience" the action as it unfolds around you. Neither an IMAX nor a 3-D movie, the theater set consists of actual barn siding, with five multiple projection screens, 100,000 watts of theatrical lighting, custom-designed mechanical special effects, four-dimensional sound imagery, an original musical score and unforgettable ghosting effects.

Show runs every hour - on the hour - 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Amish Farmlands Tour

(the Farmlands Tour takes about 90 minutes)

Since 1959, the cornerstone of The Amish Experience has been the Amish Farmlands Tour, taking you deep into the heart of the oldest Amish community in the world where you'll marvel at some of the most beautiful farmland you'll ever see. These are the same fertile fields that attracted and have kept the Amish in Pennsylvania for over 250 years. A Certified Amish Country Tours guide answers your questions while calling your attention to the fascinating sights to be observed along the way...spring plowing, children playing, making hay, etc.

When you board one of the air-conditioned 14-passenger mini-shuttles, you'll experience a sense of the work and family ethics that continue to mark the Amish way of life. Witness spectacular panoramas of patchwork farms unparalleled in their intrinsic beauty, still farmed with horses and mules. Roadside stands, bake shops, or a visit to a craft or quilt shop on an Amish farm are among the unique happenings that may be enjoyed on your 90-minute Farmlands excursion.

Seating is limited to 14 guests per shuttle, so arranging your chosen tour departure time in advance is strongly recommended.  Tours depart at 10:00 am, 12:00 noon, 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm.

PLEASE NOTE:  If your child rides in a child safety seat/booster seat in your car, you must provide a child safety seat/booster seat for your child to ride in the mini-shuttle.
